Most of the time, Americans and Britons are on the receiving end of one of the scientific world's most prestigious awards: the Gairdner Awards. This year was different.

For the first time, three of the six Gairdner Award recipients were Canadian. We had one of them on the program recently, Dr. Sam Weiss.

Weiss' research has opened the door to some extraordinary possibilities for those who have suffered from strokes or spinal cord injuries.
