Tonight The Agenda discusses how the Canadian idea of the North is intrinsic to our identity. The program is being produced in conjunction with TVO’s broadcast of the unique documentary series The Polar Sea. The next episode of The Polar Sea airs on TVO at 9 pm ET, immediately following The Agenda.
Earlier this year, artist and filmmaker Cory Trépanier talked to The Agenda about his travels to Canada's remote wildernesses, and how recreating the landscapes on canvas helps Canadians connect with an area of our country that lives so strongly in our imaginations.
One of his driving forces is the element of preservation — he's aware that what he's painting may be altered in years to come. But he also describes his desire to give people a passionate view of their country through his art. "To be humbled by nature is a powerful thing," he says of his multiple trips to the Arctic to explore and paint.
You can watch the interview in full above. You can also check out last Monday’s Agenda episode on the impact of climate change on the economy, livelihoods, and lives in the North. And find out more about The Polar Sea via TVO’s special page devoted to the documentary.
